Timothy Phillips
The chief executive officer of a Portland investment firm is being sued by a former employee who says he was called offensive names and wasn’t promoted because he is gay.
The $2 million lawsuit was filed this week in Multnomah County Circuit Court. Jerry Nick Henning alleges CEO Tim Phillips told the office he was gay, and laughed when he complained that someone was leaving roses and condom wrappers on his car.
A spokesman for Phillips says the allegations are false, without merit and sad. Dan Lavey says Phillips considered Henning a friend and close work colleague whom he entrusted with major office responsibilities.
Henning resigned in 2008, nine years after he was hired.
The above is from the Statesman Journal. Here at Fabuolous PDX, we looked up a little more info on the “interwebs” and we are sharing that info here:

In a $2 million lawsuit filed this week in Multnomah County Circuit Court, Jerry “Nick” Henning accuses CEO Tim Phillips of repeatedly calling him into his office and demanding that he use his “gaydar” to identify other gay employees. The suit alleges that Phillips told the office Henning was gay, and Phillips laughed after Henning complained that someone was leaving roses and condom wrappers on his car.
Phillips founded Phillips & Company in 1992. According to the company’s website, it has more than 8,000 clients nationwide and is one of Oregon’s largest investment firms. Phillips was a Republican candidate in the primary race for David Wu’s 1st District U.S. House seat in 2004.
In the suit, filed by Portland attorney Mitra Shahri, Henning alleges that he was one of the top five producing brokers at the firm, but after Phillips learned he was gay, he was passed by for promotions. Henning resigned in 2008, nine years after he was hired.
