Group hopes to gain one hundred new members by the end of the Summer.

2-Why-JoinJuly 31st marked the beginning of the one-year countdown to the Gay Games 2010 in Cologne, Germany. A group of Oregonians is determined to send as many Oregon and Southwest Washington athletes to the Games as possible.

Team Oregon 2010 was formed in December of 2008 by a diverse group of athletes and enthusiasts. The non-profit group’s mission is to assist athletes and supporters who want to attend the Gay Games 2010 in Cologne, Germany. Team Oregon 2010 plans to seek sponsorship, hold fundraisers and facilitate other activities designed to make the Gay Games experience as rewarding as possible for Oregon and SW Washington participants.

The Gay Games movement started in 1982 in San Francisco and has held games recently in Chicago and Sydney. The Cologne Games will attract over 12,000 athletes from around the globe, making it one of the largest sporting events in the world.

Team Oregon 2010 is a membership organization. Anyone can join – even people who are not planning on attending the games.

“We want to make it possible for Oregonians to simply show their support for Oregon athletes at the Gay Games. Becoming a member of Team Oregon 2010 is an easy way to do that,” stated Rob Patton, a Team Oregon 2010 board member.

Membership in the organization carries a one-time fee of twenty dollars. Members can receive “scholarships” to help defray the cost of travel and lodging for the Games.

The group is working hard to increase its membership base.

“A solid membership base helps us secure corporate donations,” said Jackie Wheatley, another Team Oregon 2010 organizer.

People interested in joining Team Oregon 2010 can fill out the simple form on the group’s website: www.TeamOregon2010.org. Just click on the “Membership” button at the top of the page.
