Gay and Grey expo in Portland eases fears of retirees

The 2nd annual Gay and Grey PDX Expo at Friendly House focused on the social, housing and health care needs of Portland’s aging lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning and intersexual community.

Workshop topics included making the most of a geriatric specialist visit to accessing long-term-care housing.

Volunteer help is need to help close the transportation gap & make sure LGBT seniors can get to GAY & GREY 2010 on SAT. May 22nd. Lack of transportation compounds the isolation that seniors and people with disabilities often face. GLBT seniors often have additional barriers as many events of interest are on evenings and weekends. Northwest Portland Ministries is part of the solution, providing support for field trips and getting individuals to medical appointments and other essential activities for this event and on an ongoing basis.

The second attempt to recall Sam Adams, Portland, Ore.’s gay mayor, has come up short — supporters of the recall needed 32,183 signatures but were unable to achieve that number before the deadline. A Texas court has yet to make a decision as to whether a gay couple who married in Massachusetts can get a divorce in Dallas County.
