The Next Big Event

Sometimes, life in Fabulous Portland seems like periodic breaks between really big, important events.

Gala fundraisers, costume parties and special events dot our calendar with alarming consistency. It’s almost like these people are all talking to one another and someone decided Portland can handle one per month – except for June.

So, the next one is the Equity Foundation Speakeasy Casino – a fundraiser.

Saturday, March 6 at The Crystal Ballroom
Tickets are $65 per person.
Go HERE to get the tickets.

Here is all the info about the event:

The Bridgetown Sextet will entertain revelers at Equity Foundation’s “Speakeasy Casino: A Night to Get Lucky” on March 6, 2010 at the Crystal Ballroom. Equity Foundation has decided to be bold and do something different for their fundraiser. No more long speeches and live auctions. The event will include gambling, prohibition era themes, 20′s era jazz by Bridgetown Sextet, cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, silent auction, and big prizes for the winners. Don’t gamble? There will be something for everyone.

Money raised during the Speakeasy Casino will benefit Equity Foundation, which is a local Oregon foundation that promotes the dignity and worth of all people by providing college scholarships and grants to organizations working to end discrimination against gender and sexual minorities as well as other diverse communities in Oregon. Equity Foundation is a community foundation that relies on the community to both donate to the foundation and to help steer their granting programs. The bulk of Equity Foundation donors are members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community as well as numerous people from many diverse backgrounds. Therefore, Equity Foundation funds organizations that represent the wide spectrum of interests in the LGBT community, including many non-LGBT focused projects. Donations to the foundation, therefore, benefit more than just one organization. Donations touch organizations and students throughout the state.

This past year Equity Foundation granted nearly $320,000 to 175 organizations across the state of Oregon. Recent grantees have included Community Alliance of Lane County, Oregon Public Broadcasting, Q Center, Elder Resource Alliance, and many others.
