A film version of Stephen Sondheim’s well-known musical Company is in the works with Neil LaBute most likely directing.  More from The Advocate:

Theater blogger Mark Shenton quotes LaBute describing the play as “Carnal Knowledge with songs,” referencing the 1971 Jack Nicholson film, during a press conference to discuss his play In a Forest, Dark and Deep.

Company was first performed in 1970 and is considered one of the greatest achievements in Sondheim’s illustrious career. The show focuses on Bobby, a confirmed bachelor who receives advice from his married friends, and introduced several songs that have since become standards, including “Being Alive” and “The Ladies Who Lunch.”

LaBute is noted for directing the controversial films In the Company of Men and Your Friends & Neighbors and writing the plays Some Girl(s) and Fat Pig.
