Move over Groupon — there’s a new daily deals site on the Internet, this one providing subscribers with offers from local and regional businesses with a history of gay-friendliness.

Founded by Robert Graham of Clear Channel Radio and Jason Buszta, Gaypon is like a Groupon that caters to LGBT people and their allies. Any business that stands up for equality is eligible.

A distinctive feature of the site is that a portion of the proceeds taken in — exactly how much is not clear — will be donated to LGBT-supportive organizations and charities like the Trevor Project. According to Tech Crunch, “Gaypon is a valid attempt at creating a groundswell of community support for local businesses that have demonstrated a desire for equality in all their business practices by rewarding them with new customers.”

Gaypon merchants must undergo a background check to see how they rank on lists like the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. Also taken into consideration are complaints of discrimination or poor hiring practices.

Watch a video on how Gaypon works below.
