Fabulous Fall with the Portland Sisters

I consider Pride and Halloween to be two of the High Homo Holy Days.  Both occasions bring out the most fabulous and glamorous in the LGBT community.  Halloween 2009 in Portland, was no different.  The Portland Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence spent Halloween evening at Mother Maybel’s, then on to Vault Martini and Jinx Bar, and finally to Red Cap Garage.  At each location we saw examples of LGBT Portland expressing themselves and showing off how fabulous they could be.  It was a great night and a great celebration.

Now that Halloween has come and gone and Portland has entered into the darker, wetter time of the year, does that mean fabulous days and nights are over with?  NO WAY!  The Portland Sisters have tons of events and activities planned over the next couple months.  Here are just a few of the fabulous things in the works:

• Confession Wednesdays, hosted by the Sisters, at Jinx bar on Wednesdays starting  November 11th.
• Jell-o shot sales at Red Cap Garage on the 2nd Friday of the month.  We’ll be at the SPelUNK event on Friday, November 13th.  Look for us!
• World AIDS Day activities, including attendance at The Living Vigil being held at the Portland Metropolitan Community Church and the Sisters Walking Vigil through downtown PDX.
• Free HIV testing with Multnomah County during Hip Hop Heaven at CC’s Slaughter’s on the 1st Thursday of every month.  We were just there last night, but we’ll be there again on December 3rd.  Know your status!  Knowledge is power!
• A special performance by Sister Dixie Rupt and several Novice Sisters at the Community Holiday Show hosted by the Oregon Bears on Sunday, December 6th.

Next up is Mrs. Cleaver’s Beaver Bingo this Sunday, November 8th.  It’s a new Thanksgiving Tradition. Instead of stuffing a turkey try stuffing a beaver! Kick off the Holiday Season with the Portland Sister’s Mrs. Cleaver’s Beaver Bingo. Come dressed up like Mrs. Cleaver, or maybe come as a stuffed beaver.  Show us what the Holiday means to you!  Sister Bingo is the 2nd Sunday of each month at the PPAA Hall, 618 SW Alder St. Doors open at 4:00pm and we start pulling balls at 4:30pm. Bingo packs are $15 per person. Additional packs $5 each.  As always, a portion of the proceeds goes to our grant fund which goes directly back to Portland organizations making an impact in our community.

As you can see, the Sisters have tons of things on tap to keep things fabulous during the cold, wet months of Fall and Winter here in Portland.  Not only are these events alot of fun, but many of them are raising funds that go right back into our PDX community.  Keep an eye out here at fabulouspdx.com for updates on what the Sisters are up to and our take on events we’re hosting and attending.
