A “Heat Wave” is coming to Portland in less than two weeks. Though we can’t guarantee temperatures in the 90′s, we do promise to turn up the heat as the Portland Gay Men’s Chorus grooves to Motown Sound March 19th and 20th in Kaul Auditorium at Reed College.
2011 marks the 50th anniversary of the Motown label, which created some of the biggest hits of the 60′s and 70′s. Under the leadership of Berry Gordy Jr., Motown artists fashioned music that came to characterize this tumultuous period, creating a real soundtrack of soul. “Please Mr. Postman,” “Baby Love,” “What’s Going On” and “I Heard It Through the Grapevine” are just a few of the mega-hits PGMC will perform. In addition to full-chorus production numbers with awe-inspiring soloists and dancers, smaller ensembles will be performing the music of The Supremes, The Jackson Five, and Smokey Robinson. Woven through these groovy sounds will be a multi-media flashback recalling this revolutionary era.
