Marriage Equality Rally 11.04.09 at Pioneer Square
Good news from Washington State, where it appears that a statewide referendum to maintain the domestic partner law is coming down in our favor.
Bad news from Maine, where Marriage Equality has once again lost in a vote of the people.
Oregon had Measure 36. California had Prop 8. Why are GLBT rights – the rights of a minority group – ever subject to a vote of the majority?
Feel like joining with others to express how you feel?
There is a rally scheduled today: Wednesday, November 4.
Organized by “community members,” this is the invitation sent out on Facebook:
Are you PISSED like I am? First Measure 36, then Prop 8, now Prop 1. Bigots keep voting our rights away.
We must show them that we will not let them have the last vote. We will stand up to them and fight for equality. We will not give into lies and hate. We will not settle for scraps of justice.
WE WILL NOT BE SILENT! We must DEMAND our rights NOW!!
No excuses, no exceptions, no compromises!!!Please join me at Pioneer Square on November 4th 7pm. This will be a safe space for you to vocalize your feelings about being voted into second class citizenship time and time again! Come out and be heard!!
Perhaps small celebrations for Washington State’s victory will be allowed?
What: Rally
When: Wednesday, Nov 4, 7 pm.
Where: Pioneer Square, Downtown Portland Oregon
