“I Love My Boo” campaign launched in NYC

The I Love My Boo media campaign has been extended to over 1,000 NYC sunway cars and 150 NYC subway stations for October.  The ads were initially displayed only in gay bars.  More from The Advocate:

Living Out Loud with Darian reports that The Gay Men’s Health Crisis (GMHC) kicked off the relaunch of its “I Love My Boo” campaign October 4 with a rally in NYC’s Christopher Street Park in Greenwich Village.

The campaign, filled with images of black and Latino committed gay couples, has two main objectives: to prevent HIV infections and to increase the representation of gay black and Latino men in the media. This campaign comes in light of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s recent study that showed black and Latino men are least likely to be aware of their HIV status, something GMHC attributes to taboos regarding homosexuality.

“HIV prevention and supporting people with HIV/AIDS is rooted in homophobia and we’re over it,” Marjorie Hill, Chief Executive Officer of GMHC told LOL with Darian. “Part of the challenge for “Boo” is to give voice and vision to those who are not given a voice in the larger community.”
