Hypnosis
What exactly is hypnosis? While definitions can vary, the American Psychological Association describes hypnosis as a cooperative interaction in which the participant responds to the suggestions of the hypnotist. While hypnosis has become well-known thanks to popular acts where people are prompted to perform unusual or ridiculous actions, the technique has also been clinically proven to provide medical and therapeutic benefits, most notably in the reduction of pain and anxiety, phobias and self-doubt. It has even been suggested that hypnosis can reduce the symptoms of dementia.
The Process
When you hear the word hypnotist, the most likely image that comes to mind is a sinister stage-villain who brings about a hypnotic state by swinging a pocket watch back and forth. The hypnotist does not hypnotize the individual. Rather, the hypnotist serves as a sort of coach or tutor whose job is to help the person to hypnotize themselves. While hypnosis is often described as a sleep-like trance state, it is better described as a state of focused attention, heightened suggestibility and vivid imagination.
The Hypnotist
Gary A Meyer is a nationally certified hypnotherapist with over ten years of experience. Gary provides clients with tools to effectively improve their lives, allowing them to successfully navigate their way through life’s difficult situations, modify unwanted behavior, and improve their lifestyles. Gary recently moved to Portland, Oregon for both strategic and personal reasons, with the intention of opening a new hypnotherapy practice. This intention has come to fruition in the form of MindSet Hypnosis. Portland, with its eclectic culture and well-known support of alternative lifestyles, Gary knew this was a place he wanted to be in order to help people. Gary looks to pursue his career, working with people to improve their lives through cultivating healthier, more productive habits and eliminating unhealthy behaviors.
Following your MindSet Hypnosis sessions, you will receive a personalized CD. Your CD will reinforce your new thought patterns by repeating your positive affirmation, which you create while in the hypnotic state. This approach encourages and empowers you to become an active participant in you own healing and maximizes your ability to achieve your goal. As you continue to do self-hypnosis, you will become more confident and comfortable with the process and can benefit from it indefinitely.
